The aircraft’s last known position was south of Peshawar, Pakistan. The Taliban-run Afghan aviation ministry noted that the plane had deviated from its intended route, likely due to technical issues, and an investigation was underway to determine whether safety rules had been violated.

Russia’s investigative committee has launched a criminal case to examine possible violations of safety regulations. The plane, reportedly owned by the Russian company Athletic Group LLC, had not been cleared for comment.
