The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has announced a recall of two instant bak kut teh products that were imported from an unapproved source in Malaysia. The affected products are the dry and soup versions of Samy Instant Cooking Bak Kut Teh with Rice, which were found to contain more than five percent pork.
Compliance with Food Safety Standards
According to SFA regulations, meat and meat products must only be imported from sources that are accredited and from countries approved for meeting Singapore’s stringent food safety standards. The recalled products did not meet these criteria, prompting immediate action from the authorities.
Recall Details
The recall is being conducted by the importers, Biscotti Trading and Boughtnex, and includes all batches of the implicated products. SFA has taken this step as a precaution to safeguard consumer health and ensure the integrity of the food supply chain.
Guidance for Consumers
SFA urges consumers who have purchased these products to refrain from consuming them. Those who have consumed the products and feel unwell have been advised to seek medical attention promptly. Consumers can return the products to their point of purchase or contact the retailers for further inquiries.
Importance of Regulatory Compliance
SFA emphasized the importance of adherence to import regulations, highlighting that food products from unknown or unapproved sources could pose significant food safety risks. The agency continues to monitor and enforce these regulations to prevent similar issues in the future.
