In a festive blend of tradition and community spirit, the Istana grounds will be open to the public on April 21st, celebrating both Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Labour Day. This special open house, running from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM, invites visitors to immerse themselves in a rich cultural experience with a host of activities planned for the day.

Cultural Performances and Activities

Guests at the open house can expect a vibrant showcase of multicultural dances and traditional music featuring instruments like the angklung, kulintang, and gamelan, performed by talented students from various schools. These performances aim to reflect the diverse cultural heritage of Singapore and foster a deeper appreciation among attendees.

Shopping and Dining

The event will also feature activity and merchandise booths, along with food stalls offering a taste of local and festive treats. In addition to enjoying the culinary offerings, visitors can shop for unique souvenirs at the merchandise booths. These booths will include limited-edition Istana and President’s Challenge memorabilia, with proceeds supporting local social service agencies such as Club Heal, the Muscular Dystrophy Association (Singapore), and Ain Society—a support group for cancer patients and families. It’s important to note that the event will only accept cashless payments, made through credit or debit cards or via QR code.

Guided Tours

For those interested in history and architecture, guided tours of the Istana’s main building will be available. These tours will occur every half-hour from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, offering insights into selected function rooms and showcasing some of the state gifts received by Singapore’s leaders over the years. Alternatively, visitors may also opt to explore the building on their own.

This open house not only provides a platform for cultural exchange and community engagement but also celebrates the communal spirit of Singapore’s major public holidays. All are welcome to partake in this day of festivity, learning, and celebration at the Istana.
