The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) has dispatched humanitarian aid and a volunteer team to Sri Lanka to assist with flood relief and recovery efforts. This initiative aims to provide critical support to those affected by the recent severe weather events.

Financial Assistance and Support

SRC has contributed $50,000 to the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society. These funds will be used to deliver immediate relief, including safe drinking water, first aid assistance, and essential non-food items to families displaced by the floods. Additionally, the donation will facilitate the organization of medical camps in flood-affected regions and support clean-up efforts to mitigate dengue risks by clearing flooded areas and drainages.

Impact of Monsoon Storms

Since mid-May, Sri Lanka has experienced heavy rains due to monsoon storms, resulting in widespread floods, wind damage, and landslides. The disaster has led to 33 reported fatalities and displaced nearly 5,000 people, with over 200,000 individuals affected.

Ongoing Relief Efforts

The SRC’s contribution is part of a broader effort to provide relief and recovery to those impacted by the monsoon storms in Sri Lanka. The volunteer team will work on the ground to support these initiatives, aiming to alleviate the immediate needs of the affected communities and assist in long-term recovery efforts.
