Takeoffs and landings at South Korea’s Incheon International Airport were disrupted for about three hours due to balloons launched by North Korea, filled with refuse, an airport spokesperson reported. The disruption occurred on Wednesday when one of the balloons landed on the tarmac near passenger terminal two.
Runways Temporarily Shut Down
In response to the incident, the three runways at Incheon International Airport were temporarily closed to ensure safety and clear the debris. This closure affected airport operations, leading to delays and inconveniences for travelers.
Ongoing Balloon Incidents
Since late May, North Korea has been sending balloons carrying rubbish into South Korea, with hundreds of them landing across the country. Several of these balloons were spotted within and around the boundaries of Incheon International Airport, prompting heightened security measures and ongoing monitoring to prevent further disruptions.
