Evacuation and Return
Tens of thousands of northern California residents were forced to evacuate their homes as wildfires spread rapidly during a severe heatwave. Around 16,000 people were under evacuation orders and warnings.
Ongoing Heatwave
The region is experiencing dangerously hot weather, with temperatures forecasted to reach up to 118°F (47°C) in some areas. This extreme heat is fueling more than 3,000 active wildfires across the state.
Challenges in Containment
The persistent heatwave, expected to last until early next week, is complicating efforts to contain the multiple wildfires, creating uncertainty and additional challenges for firefighting crews.
