Japan’s meteorological agency has issued heatstroke alerts for 26 of the country’s 47 prefectures. The agency urges residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, use air conditioners day and night, and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Extreme Heat Warnings

Authorities issued these extreme heat warnings after temperatures reached 40°C for the first time this year on Sunday. The country is currently enduring another intense heatwave.

Record Temperatures

On Sunday afternoon, Shizuoka in central Japan recorded a temperature of 40°C. Additionally, 244 other locations across Japan saw temperatures rise to 35°C or higher, a level officially recognized as “extremely hot.”

Fatalities

The severe heatwave has already led to four deaths, highlighting the urgent need for caution and preventive measures during this period.
