Stephenie Chen, a talented kayaker from Singapore, has successfully advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s K1 500m event at the Paris Olympics. Her progress came after a strong performance in two races on Wednesday, August 7.
Performance in the Heats
In the initial heat, Chen secured a fifth-place finish with a time of 1 minute and 58.52 seconds. The competition format allowed the fastest two competitors from each heat to automatically advance to the semi-finals, while those placing third to seventh moved on to the quarter-finals for another chance to qualify.
Impressive Quarter-Final Showing
During the quarter-final round, the 32-year-old kayaker improved her time significantly, completing the race in 1 minute and 53.88 seconds. She finished fifth out of eight competitors, which was enough to secure her a spot in the semi-finals. The top five athletes from each of the four quarter-final races earned the opportunity to compete in the semi-finals on Saturday.
