The number of certificates of entitlement (COEs) available for bidding between November 2024 and January 2025 will rise to 15,834, marking a 3.6% increase from the previous quota of 15,283 between August and October. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced the new figures on October 4, reflecting a continued focus on regulating vehicle ownership in Singapore.
More Category A COEs for Smaller Cars and EVs
For Category A COEs, which apply to smaller and less powerful cars as well as electric vehicles (EVs), the quota has risen by 5.6%, bringing the number of available certificates to 6,190. This represents an increase from the 5,864 COEs available in the previous period, resulting in 54 more COEs for each tender exercise during the next three months.
Increase in Category B and Open Category COEs
Category B COEs, which are designated for larger and more powerful vehicles and EVs, will also see a modest increase of 2%. The new quota for this category will be 4,060, up from 3,980. Additionally, the Open Category COEs (Category E), which can be used for any vehicle type, will increase by 3.6%, rising from 1,035 to 1,072 certificates.
Adjustments to Meet Demand for Vehicle Ownership
These changes reflect LTA’s adjustments to manage the demand for vehicle ownership in Singapore. COEs remain a critical tool in regulating the number of vehicles on the road and ensuring sustainability in the country’s transport system.
