Widespread Alerts for Potential Flash Floods
On the morning of October 14, Singapore’s national water agency, PUB, issued flood risk alerts across the island in response to heavy rain. The National Environment Agency (NEA) had earlier warned of intense rainfall over the northern, western, and central areas of Singapore between 8:05am and 8:45am.
Flash Flood Risk Warnings Issued Across Multiple Areas
PUB issued a total of 19 flash flood risk warnings between 8:00am and 9:15am via Telegram, highlighting areas such as Bedok, Joo Chiat Avenue, Sunset Way, and Ulu Pandan Road. The public was advised to avoid these locations for at least an hour to ensure safety.
Heavy Rainfall Exceeds September Levels
According to the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS), the highest recorded rainfall by 3:00pm on October 14 reached 145.8mm at Kent Ridge. This exceeded the maximum rainfall recorded in the latter half of September, which peaked at 95.4mm in Jurong Pier, reflecting the intensity of the morning downpour.
Residents and commuters are urged to stay informed about weather conditions and follow safety guidelines during such heavy rainfall events.
