In a shocking incident on Monday morning in Sembawang, a Tower Transit bus rammed into a McDonald’s delivery rider, resulting in a chain collision that involved a car and the motorcycle. The accident has left three individuals injured.
The Incident Unfolds
A video that surfaced on the Facebook page SG Road Vigilante captured the harrowing moment. The footage shows bus service 980 speeding on the center lane of a three-lane road. The bus then collides with the delivery rider, who had halted at a red light. The force of the impact throws the rider backward, causing him to crash into the rear windscreen of a car in front of him.
Immediate Aftermath and Actions Taken
Following the incident, a spokesperson from Tower Transit Singapore (TTS) confirmed to The Straits Times that the 68-year-old bus driver was identified as the one at fault. The driver has since been suspended, and disciplinary actions are pending.
Apart from the delivery rider, the car driver and an infant traveling on the bus with his mother also received medical attention. The police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force were alerted to the accident, which occurred at the junction of Sembawang Way and Canberra Road around 10:30 am.
The 38-year-old delivery rider, although conscious when taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, had to be hospitalized. He has, however, been discharged, as per the TTS spokesperson.
Investigations Underway
The bus driver is currently assisting the police with their investigations. The police have stated that the investigations are ongoing.
In a statement, the TTS spokesperson expressed the company’s regret over the incident: “TTS has reached out to them to offer our sincere apologies and assist them with their medical claims. We wish them a speedy recovery and will continue to check in on them.”
