The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has issued a travel advisory urging Singaporeans to avoid travel to several conflict-affected areas, including the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Israel’s borders with Lebanon and Syria. Additionally, non-essential travel to Israel is discouraged due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Gaza Strip.
The advisory comes in response to the recent escalation of violence in the Middle East, triggered by a major attack on Israel by the Palestinian militant group Hamas. The conflict has resulted in a significant loss of life on both sides, with the situation rapidly deteriorating and threatening to escalate into a major regional conflict.
Singapore strongly condemned the rocket and terror attacks launched from Gaza on Israel and called for an immediate end to the violence. As a result, the MFA has taken steps to ensure the safety and security of Singaporean citizens traveling to or residing in the affected areas.
The MFA’s advisory includes recommendations for Singaporeans in these regions to remain vigilant and closely monitor local developments. They are advised to avoid areas known for public disturbances and large crowds, particularly in the Old City and East Jerusalem, including Haram al-Sharif/Temple Mount.
In addition to staying cautious and informed, Singaporeans are encouraged to take necessary precautions for their personal safety, such as purchasing comprehensive travel and medical insurance. The MFA also strongly recommends that Singaporeans e-register with the ministry, allowing for easier communication in case of emergencies.
To ensure that friends and family are aware of their safety, Singaporeans are advised to stay in touch with their loved ones. As the situation in the conflict zones remains volatile, the MFA is committed to providing support and assistance to Singaporean citizens affected by the crisis.
