Singapore’s swimming sensation, Toh Wei Soong, continued to shine on the international stage, securing two gold medals in a single day at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou. With this achievement, Toh now boasts a tally of three gold medals at this year’s Games.
On Friday, October 27, Toh showed his prowess by winning the men’s 50m freestyle S7 event, clocking an impressive time of 28.81 seconds. This record-breaking performance surpassed his own previous record, making him the fastest in the Games’ history for this event. China’s contenders, Wang Jingang and Huang Xianquan, trailed behind with timings of 30.39 seconds and 31.18 seconds respectively, securing silver and bronze.
The 50m freestyle wasn’t Toh’s only triumph of the day. He later returned to the pool to contest the 50m butterfly S7 final and, once again, he didn’t disappoint. With a stellar performance, he touched the wall at 30.49 seconds, claiming another gold medal. China’s Huang Xianquan finished in second place with a time of 32.17 seconds, closely followed by India’s Suyash Narayan Jadhav who clocked 32.22 seconds.
Toh’s unmatched speed and technique in the water have once again highlighted Singapore’s prominence in the swimming arena. His achievements at the Asian Para Games are not just victories for him, but they also shine a light on the incredible talent and determination of para-athletes across Asia.
