The Housing and Development Board (HDB) has selected Sunseap Leasing for a significant project to equip approximately 1,075 HDB blocks and 101 government sites with solar panels by the latter part of 2026.
Enhanced Solar Capacity
Announced on February 27, the project is set to feature a solar capacity of 130 megawatt-peak (MWp), surpassing the initial projections by 15 percent, which were set at 113MWp. This expansion in solar capacity is poised to supply power to over 30,000 four-room HDB flats across the region.
Implementation Timeline
HDB has scheduled the commencement of the solar panel installations for the second quarter of 2024. To date, around 3,900 out of the targeted 9,500 HDB blocks have been outfitted with solar panels, marking significant progress toward HDB’s sustainability goals.
Sustainable Energy Use
The solar panels are primarily used to power essential communal services such as lighting, lifts, and water pumps during daylight hours, with any surplus energy being redirected to the national electrical grid. The initiative aims for net-zero energy consumption in the common areas of HDB blocks, balancing the energy consumed with the amount generated on-site.
