Digital Bunkering to Become Mandatory for Singapore Bunker Suppliers from April 2025
Starting April 1, 2025, all bunker suppliers operating at Singapore’s port will be required to implement digital bunkering services as the default practice. This initiative will make Singapore the first country to introduce large-scale digital bunkering, revolutionizing the maritime industry by digitalizing the refueling process.
Streamlined Processes and Reduced Manual Work
Digital bunkering involves the use of electronic bunker delivery notes, replacing traditional paperwork and manual procedures. The shift to digital processes is expected to save nearly 40,000 man-days annually across the maritime sector, significantly enhancing efficiency and transparency in Singapore’s bunkering operations.
Benefits of Digital Bunkering for Efficiency and Accountability
Speaking at the Singapore International Bunkering Conference and Exhibition on October 9, Senior Minister of State for Transport Amy Khor emphasized the advantages of digital bunkering for the maritime industry. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) noted that the digitalization will facilitate seamless data sharing between bunker buyers and suppliers, speeding up administrative tasks and boosting accountability in the refueling process.
